Thankou Pajarita and Wolf :)
I am doing volonteer work at a sanctuary once or twice a week for around 5 hours, (just went this morning actually and will go again Wed).. Its allot of fun, I love so many of the birds there though it is a tease to not get more(which we have been offered some babies including a rainbow lory baby today)!!!
I am in love with a rainbow lorikeet x yellow scaly lorikeet named Shrekie. And an alexandrine male named Sonny. And a sun conure I call Mickey.. And all the Macaws and Black and White cockatoos..
I actually thought you must have made up MBS, lol!
I dont want my life to change allot, I am content but I do know it will... and its a pretty scary thought. I hope to always be there for Tilly, but it may not work out to be the case. She hasnt been DNA'd but Id like to have it done. The rest of the family dont see the point but.. Not whining but it is a four hour trip to the nearest avian specialist(one way so 8h all up wich would be pretty stressfull for Tilly &I dont have a lisence so Mum or Dad would have to sit the drive too! )... and I dont want to hurt her plucking her feathers.
I think that I do have MBS hehe. I was considering adopting an elder bird like an old eclectus/conure or cockatoo, but havnt found anything like that. Why do birds have to be so charming?!!

If you want your bird DNA sexed there are companies where you can send a feather off to be tested- you don't need to go to a vet.

I can't imagine that in your country there isn't one somewhere.
If there is nobody available that deals with the general public then ring your vet and see if you can post it there for them to send off.

The thing to do for sexing is to get the card for the drops of blood, and the card for the feathers, and keep them on hand. If your bird has an incident in which he bleeds a bit, or has some chest feathers plucked, you can use the opportunity to get a sample without causing any more pain to the bird than he is already in.

I was 90% sure that my bird was a hen, based on behavior. We got it confirmed when the bird was having blood drawn for other reasons.
