Most of the birdsites have people telling other people to use Cheerios as treats. I am sure that's where she got it from...

Treats are bad enough.... but free feeding them is just terrible.

I am in lots of bird forums and in facebook groups and I have never seen them advocating cheerios. I have seen lots of posts about iron and Zinc in Cheerios. That is one of the reasons it shocks me that anyone would free feed cheerios.

Maybe people are now learning not to do it but it was a fairly common thing for people to suggest using Cheerios as treats - and even avian vets recommended them (showing, once more, how little they know about parrot nutrition).

Very few of the forums that I visit make such recommendations. I mostly come across things like these links when I ask a question on the internet.

I have to wait until tomorrow, Monday, to call for the appointment. But she is doing very well. She is now eating her gloop, steps up, let's me give her head scritches, came out of her cage for a few seconds on her own and, today, I put her on my shoulder and she rode it for a little while, then got scared when I opened a door and flew a couple of circles around my kitchen before she went to ground, when I put my hand down and she stepped up to it. She also gave me a kiss on my cheek! And she got lots and lots of pinnies -at least on her head which is the only place I touch- so the extra protein seems to be working (she had not gotten enough with the cheerios). She also got two new toys and a large cuttlebone yesterday after I came back from ABBA with supplies, yesterday. The bad news is that ABBA does not mix its own vitamins, they get their formulas made by Roche in huge batches and they package it so I am going to have to start doing research on mixing my own for her.
