Aww, I remember this! I also remember my mom telling me about how when she was growing up, Monk Parakeets used to be everywhere (she lived in Cliffwood, NJ). I don't know if they ever came back to Cliffwood...

I don't know if there are any colonies nesting in Cliffwood but I am sure that, even if they are not, they are flying over it. I was born and raised in one of the South American countries where the quakers come from and I remember getting out of a car in Fort Lee and hearing them calling - I immediately looked up and there they were flying over my head! My heart soared with them because I felt as if I had come home!
