Great news! Using new technology, they designed nests that would 'close' their doors when it's dark and open them at dawn so the sugar gliders cannot go in during the night and kill the babies!

But, apparently, the new nests are not deemed enough to ensure the survival of the species because of the logging industry continuing to chop down trees with nests on them. Read on:

Environmental stress [not finding good food sources in their territory] is part of the problem causing the decline of populations. Read on:

They are really trying real hard to help this species avoid extinction but I wonder if they waited too long...

This is about a better way of tracking them:
https://phys.org/news/2018-10-scientist ... rrots.html

And this is about a measure that, although I understand why it was proposed, I do not agree with...

Not enough females [they get eaten by sugar gliders while incubating eggs] make for infidelity and fighting among males which, in turn, makes for less babies born - interesting, isn't? But, at the same time, it makes the species recovery more difficult.

Article on a visit by Margaret Atwood to Tasmania, as part of the program by Birdlife Australia to preserve the species. When asked for a quote for the article, she said: "Extinction is a choice" and truer words have not been spoken! It is, most definitely, man's choice whether species become extinct or not.
