What type of bird do I have here?

Postby wanderingwonderful » Wed Jun 08, 2016 9:29 am

A little help would be greatly appreciated. This bird was gifted to me by someone who was elderly and moving several states a way to live with family. I have no idea what kind she is, except loud, she is a loud, very vocal bird.

It's a quaker parrot (aka Monk parakeet). It comes from temperate zone countries in South America so it's imperative that she is kept at a strict solar schedule. But, my dear, this bird has very poor plumage so I am thinking that her diet has not been very good -which should be easy to correct as they are VERY good eaters!

Great! But I hope you are not free-feeding her pellets because they are not the best thing for them, either.

There are at least two great sources for information on feeding your birds, they are Pajarita and Seagoatdeb and I am learning a lot about parrot feeding due to their efforts and I know that both would be very happy to share this information with you.
