Read up on nutrition and lighting. You are hurting now that your baby is gone but a bird human cannot live long without a bird. You will be more informed and ready for the next one.

You cannot fill the space that your baby left but a another will find it's own space in your heart.

Oh, my goodness! In the kitchen - the worst place for a bird! And putting his mouth on them -again, a complete no-no for birds as they have no immunity whatsoever to the bacteria humans have in their mouths! Most breeders lack so much knowledge is scary...

Just to update my husband keeps tropical fish and visited a pet shop and in a small canary cage was a quaker with no toys etc not wanting another conure to replace roxy he brought the quaker he arived home with a very dirty six month old quaker that is going through a moultt and is cage bound not a very happy bird that very loudly growls whenever we entered the room .well im taking it slowly sitting by her cage talking calmly to her or him and so far ive managed to get her to tolerate me sitting by the cage she even had a bath and looks so much better although changing her food and water is a major drama for us both ,we have called her treacle by the way : :monk:

Oh, that is GREAT news!!! I am so happy for you! :danicing: Quakers are one of my favorite species of parrots because they come from the country where I was born and raised. But, my dear, quakers are also conures. Now, two things about them (and excuse me if you already know this)
1. They can NOT be kept at a human light schedule because they are very hormonal little birds that come from the temperate zone in South America.
2. They are great eaters and they do not do well with high protein so no free-feeding pellets or seeds for her/him. So start her/him on a good diet right away and she/he won't give you any trouble later on.

And Treacle is a great name although it might be a bit hard for her/him to say...

Congratulations on your new family member. I am sure that you will do just fine and have a great relationship with Treacle. Quakes do have some very interesting lifestyle difference than similar type parrots, so a bit of research about their natural behaviors in the wild might prove useful as well as interesting. And of course learning about their natural diet in the wild will give one a better idea as to how to provide him with better nutrition.
