Cites and African Grays

Postby Pajarita » Mon Aug 15, 2016 10:40 am

I sign on lots and lots and lots of petitions on animals and, although I never put them here, I decided to do this one because it's about African Grays and the situation is really dire, guys.

This is a petition to request CITES to move the African Gray parrot from their appendix II to their appendix I so whereas before, they were keeping their eyes on them, now their trade would be regulated. The wild poaching of grays for use as pets in Africa and Asia has escalated to enormous proportions in the past few years and it is calculated that their populations decline in recent years has been 90 to 99%!!!! Poachers, responding to the demand in countries where it's not illegal to buy a poached birds are, literally and without exaggeration, bringing the species to the point of extinction! If we can stop it now, they might have a chance to make it. Please sign.

The first link is an article explaining why all parrot lovers should sign the petition:

And this is the link for the actual petition:

More articles on the same subject. I beg you all to sign the petition and to post it on your FB - the decimation of the species in the wild is reaching catastrophic levels due to the poaching (I don't know if all the birds sold in Asia and Africa are wild-caught but I would say that 99.99% of them are!). If something is not done soon, they will become extinct in the wild!

Good news! The US, as a country, is supporting the extra protection!
