Another Caique

Postby Loriusgarrulus » Fri Jan 13, 2017 4:20 am

I decided to get another caique as a pal for Tupi.
I heard of a young yellow thighed male caique needing a new home so went to look at him.
He is steady but not hand reared, uk bred close rung. He was with a female intended to be used as a breeding pair, but the hen was sold off separatley.
He came home with me yesterday and Tupi and he can hear each other so there is a bit of calling going on. :D
I am calling him Karo.

Just something to think about while your new bird is still new to you. Parrots in the wild are given their names by their parents while they are still babies in the nest and then they use that name for the remainder of their lives, sort of how we humans do with our babies. Their names are or seem to be very important to them. If your new bird already has a name and either says that name or responds to it, perhaps it would be better for the bird to stay with that name or if you feel that you really must change it to try and find a name that sounds very similar to its current name.

There are times that it can't be helped but to change their name such as when we have no idea what their name is, or sometimes someone has changed their name and they don't respond to it just to mention a couple of reasons for a name change. I am not trying to tell you whether to change this birds name or not as that is entirely up to you, but I did want to give you something to think about.

Sadly he hasn't got a name as he was going to be a breeding bird, not a pet and was never given one.
He is 15 months old.

Maybe it's a bird she had and lost...

Lori, wonderful news! And Karo is a very sweet name! There is a sweet corn syrup with that same name :D
