I think you are missing some types of Poicephalus, granted those are probably not available in aviculture.

What about the Pionus? Anything on them? Or have I missed it..

The other poicephalus I actually had in the list and then later decided to remove them because I had never heard of them in aviculture and could find no reference. The master list on the welcome is meant to serve as a list of parrots we can own and talk about. I may at some point try to create a parrot directory containing ALL parrots but that is a huge project in itself.

I did forget Pionus. Well didn't forget but didn't consider. How common do you think they are? If they are common enough that someone could potentially want to join this forum to talk about them, I must definitely add them.

I know a fair number of people who own a Pionus or more.
I actually got to spend some time with a Maximillian Pionus a friend of mine got (she also has a Meyer's) at the last local Parrot Club. Sweet little thing.

There are definitely some conures and amazons missing from the master list. Probably some parakeets as well.

I hate to open the can of worms but...a section for common hybreds? Just wondering. :D

And I just learned what FID meant. I thought it was an abbreviation for a scientific name. LOL

"Amazons:
Cuban Amazon (Rose Throated Parrot) - Amazona Leucocephala
Blue Fronted Amazon - Amazona Aestiva
Yellow Naped Amazon - Amazona Auropalliata
Yellow Headed Amazon - Amazona Oratrix
Orange Winged Amazon - Amazona Amazonica"

A few you're missing:

Yellow-Crowned Amazon (nominate group) - Amazona Ochrocephela
White-fronted Amazon - Amazona albifrons
Lilac-crowned Amazon - Amazona finschi
Red-lored Amazon - Amazona autumnalis
Mealy Amazon - Amazona farinosa

These are just some of the more popular Amazons. There are many more I've never heard of but I wanted to list the ones that I know. Can't believe you forgot the yellow-crowned when you included the yellow naped and yellow headed! The yellow-crowns are the best ones ;) I may be biased though. :amazon:

Are you interested in posting pictures to this list eventually? Or would that cause the list to become too large and disorganized?

We may be able to do pictures but I'd be afraid of "borrowing" that many pictures. So perhaps if we can get some more original pictures to use it would be better.

Sorry, I'm no expert on Amazons. Bear in mind that the list is of ones you commonly find as pets and not every single species on the planet. It's not always clear which ones are commonly available and it may be regional.

I didn't verify those but added them to the master list so you better be right about them

I'm not concerned about the other Amazons, just the yellow-crowned ;) . I can get you a picture of him, and I have a picture of a Panama Amazon (Amazona o. Panamensis - sub-species of the yellow-crowned) but it's a fairly small picture. I couldn't get a good shot while we were down in Panama, the little boy gave me permission to take a picture of their bird but his mother had different ideas about it

I don't know how concerned you are about going into sub-species either.

Would you consider separating Pyrrhura Conures and Aratinga Conures? They really are quite different from each other. I could make a list of popular birds in each category if you like.

This is why I don't believe in the term "Conure." They're all just parakeets anyway as I previously mentioned:

And then the worst term must be Conure! Because it spans multiple unrelated genera, has wide array of members with varying characteristics, has members whose names unofficially contain conure in them but officially do not, and finally basically refers to kind of parakeets. Most if not all conures are parakeets and will often be called such. For instance the Green Cheeked Conure is properly called the Green Cheeked Parakeet. So wait a minute, it's a Conure, Parakeet, Parrot, and Bird. Yet 2 out of those 4 categorizations are not based on taxonomy at all! Really weird.

So I conceded that the "Conures" won't be properly defined in the list.
