Feral IRNs in Hawaii

Postby Pajarita » Sun Jan 28, 2018 12:03 pm

Article about how destructive they are to crops. Poor things! We have done a real number on them, haven't we? We get them as pets, we don't know how to deal with them correctly, they revert to wild ways, we release them, they survive and proliferate as best they can and then we want to kill them. Geez! We are such a terrible species - so destructive, self-centered and irresponsible!

I’d be more worried about Hawaii’s unique native bird population. There are so many birds on the islands that occur nowhere else in the world. They must be very susceptible to being wiped out, simply because of how few there are, and how localized the populations are.

I mean more worried about native birds than crops.

I doubt the native birds would be suffering from lack of food even with thousands of IRNs in there, too - Hawaii produces a huge amount of fruit crops that there must be more than enough to go around.
