I was actually just reading this article after class this morning! I had half a mind to post it here, but turns out I don't have to.

It's so sad but also very fascinating.

I remember reading how widespread deforestation was. So much that, where I am, a tree over 40 years old is very rare. Because only at that time was when efforts were made to reverse the deforestation.

The Carolina Parrot doesn't seem like it was killed off like the beautiful Passenger Pigeons. Probably because parrots need a larger biome than pigeons, it must have been the loss of forest that did them in.

I remember reading that members of the flock fly to a downed bird. So if you shot one, the others would fly to it and they would be easily shot, too. Whole flocks could be wiped out at one time.
