tuis in my backyard

Postby TheNzJessie » Fri May 14, 2010 11:16 pm

tuis are endemic to new zealand, cant be found anywhere else in the world. they are nectar feeders but are often called a parrot because of there amazing ability to mimic word (with the sound of a human)
i have a total of 14 tuis that come and go where i live, they used to be endangered but are noe on the threatened list. it is still rare to see them in busy townships where i live because of the lack of food. but i have a massive nectar tree where i live as u can see in the video. i also get a couple of rainbow lorikeets that come and go but im sure they were let out my someone because lorikeets arent wild in new zealand and these ones land on me and will follow me all day long

here is the video i filmed u can here there calls also

So that's where Tui the African Grey got her name. I guess the owner is Australian.

Yes, sadly Tui flew away last year and was never recovered. I really hope somebody found her and kept her (and is taking good care of her of course) She's such a cool bird.
