African Grays news

Postby Pajarita » Wed Oct 17, 2018 10:49 am

I am going to post all gray-related news on this posting and I'll try to do the same with other species as articles pop up.

This is about a recommendation to stop ALL exports of grays out of Congo -and about time!

The Limbe Wildlife Center is asking for donations so they can build an aviary for the rescued Grays the government confiscates from poachers [this is in Cameroon, part of the grays natural habitat]. The poor birds come in sick, dehydrated and with clipped wings so they need a place where they can all be kept together and wait out the molts while they get better. They don't need a whole lot of money but, as anybody who has worked in rescue knows, there is never any money to go around so, if you can help, please do. This species will become extinct soon if we don't do something about it and this people are trying...

Yeah. I remember when Michael visited Africa, and all the birds (greys included) just packed tight in crowded cages... it was depressing and gutting to see.

But... I don't see how this can be stopped. Africa has such poor countries, and animals are being exploited there for the black market, as we all know.

These animals belong in nature. Their only threat is humans, cutting their trees down, exploiting them for money. I hate it.

Yes, we think of ourselves as the 'chosen and superior' species but the truth is that we are Earth's plague, destroying and killing everything in our way...

The poachers are not only killing them all, they are chopping off the wings of the birds they use as bait!
