all I know is they are beautiful but loud! definitely a cool conure though :D
I mainly see them called queen of bavaria conures, not golden parakeets, but the books I've seen them in are about conures after all...

ive always heard them called queen of bavaria conures too... i groom one, she is beautiful and very well behaved. just a wonderful bird to own, very similar to a blue crown conure, but a little more laid back. very expensive too, these are not readily available. im pretty sure there is a breeder here, theres go for about 3000.

It's a Golden Conure, the simbol of my country (have the colors of our flag, and only exists in our rainflorest).
Here in Brazil, it's called Ararajuba ("Arara" = "Big bird", and "Ajuba" = "Yellow" in native's language). I have one, and she is a very lovelly bird.
The Ararajuba is a very inteligent and docile parrot. Love people and is playfull. Can speak a few words and is common to see this bird in this position, like in the picture, only to receive some love from the ower. It's like a puppy with feathers.
Well, that's it. Sorry for my bad English, I don't have a clue where I put my English-Portuguese dicionary.

Oh, I forgetted! Don't confuse this bird with the Sun Conure. It has the same colours, but in a darker and redder shade.
Most people in this forum called the Ararajuba "Queen of Bavaria"... I don't getted it, because it's a real brazilian bird. The Ararajuba exist only in Brazil, guys. But again, the confusion with the Sun Conure is a very common mistake, so, I think this is the case here.

No, it's really called "Queen of Bavaria" despite being native to Brazil. I've been unable to find out why given a quick search. Does anyone here know the etymology?

I thought some former queen of Bavaria kept them but I don't know if I actually read that or made it up in my head as something that would make sense. I will do a search after I go grocery shopping.

I had the same thought. Maybe we each read it somewhere... or maybe we have the same imagination.. couldn't find anything, although it turns out Queens of Bavaria are rather rare (as opposed to Duchessess etc.). One (Sisi) was famous for being beautiful and got assassinated...
