I don't think it's there anymore. I went a few years ago (two or so) and there were rumors of it closing. My dad went recently and couldn't find it and the Yorkdale Mall website no longer mentions it.

PJ's remind me a lot of Super Pet stores - when they still existed.
The nurseries are set up in a very similar fashion, the labels and flyers are the same..I kinda wish there was a PJ's here, but no such luck, all Super Pets in Ottawa (and there were 4 of them) became PetSmarts.

lzver wrote:Out of the Poicephalus family, the Senegal and Meyer's are more common in pet stores I find. Lucy is the only Red Belly I've ever seen in a chain pet store.

Pixie was also a pet store bird - Lucy and Pixel's breeder actually sold quite a bit of her birds, Red-bellieds included - to Super Pet. Now she has stopped breeding for a few years now, but I think at one point they had quite the selection of Pois coming from her.

It is good to know that some decent breeders supply birds (at least Lucy, Pixel and Joey's breeder seemed to be decent) to pet stores ... but I think they are the exception. For the life of me I cannot get a response from Jessie's breeder. All that was registered for the leg band code was an email address and I've never gotten a response. He doesn't seem to be affected at all .... he is one happy little bird.

You're right, I guess they closed down late 2009. The location at 3291 Yonge is still open. I've always had mixed emotions about pet stores in general but I find it very strange they would shut down the busy Yorkdale Mall location.

PS. You have a bird on your head... :)

lzver wrote:I don't really have any complaints about either store. Staff that worked in bird department were quite knowledgeable about birds, were comfortable handling the birds, really seemed to know their personalities, etc. Out of any 'chain' pet store ... PJ's is the only one I would consider buying a bird from. However ... now that I know how much they mark them up, I won't buy another bird from them. I also enjoy going to PJ's because they have a greater variety of birds ...

I don't understand why you would have a problem with the price in this case? I would think the markup is to offset the cost of carrying a variety of birds, training staff and handling/raising. It's when they sell a living creature (at discount) or clearly have an overstock, that I get a little concerned. :(

I am in Brampton as well and LOVE LOVE LOVE Parrotdise Perch. We are hoping to get Bella a new cage there for Christmas. All of our birds were rehomed for free through full rescues. Love visiting the bids though at the stoes...

If you have pets, you need pet care products lawn. Most, fertilizers and pesticides you use pesticides on your lawn against a pet. Many times, pets munch on grass and at the same time take the chemicals on the lawn. This can cause many health risks for your pet. When using only pet products for lawn care, this does not happen.

Parrotdise Perch is a DANGEROUS store, especially if you have a credit card. So much cool parrot stuff, and unique too. At pet stores its always the same thing when it comes to bird toys. Petsmart has the exact same bird toys at every location, it seems, and they never give their hand-fed birds enough attention to keep them friendly. I asked to hold a Meyer's Parrot at the one near Masonville in London, and was told no because it bites too hard  . Just what do they do with birds they can't sell anyway? sorry going OT here..
