Again 1-3 my bare min. Most likely I will spend plenty more time than that. And While there are cases where a specific bird sticks out to you, my aquarist side tells me to plan ahead. And my plans will change and modify until I get it just right. I appreciate your input and look forward to more. ;)

It's kind of an odd group to chose from really but I do think that parakeets are in a different group from the others, one good reason not to get one is the health issues when it comes to budgies they tend to have more than any of the others bourkes are hardy, more expensive, very quiet and anoif you were looking for a parrot parakeets can't talk however conure's and parrotlets can, male parrotlets are more likely to talk than females though. I was iffy about getting a larger breed mostly for fear of getting bit, it's really important that you'r bird know's who's boss and if you'r afraid of them they WILL take advantage of that....most of the time. I have a parrotlet and I think he's the best of both worlds, middle of the road price too witch is great. He is smart like an Amazon, talks but not too loudly and it doesn't hurt me when he nips or bites. They're also very hardy little birds with little health concerns. I would deffinetly go with a parrotlet. :)

Excuse me if this has already been mentioned... I didn't have the time to scan all replies.

Have you considered adopting? Or looking to see if anyone is trying to get rid of an unwanted parrot? My Green-cheek Conure cost $50; cage AND bird because the owners didn't want him.
Wild animals are called 'wild' for a reason. Keep them that way. Adopt your pets, or buy them from a certified breeder.

My first time bird recommendation would be a cockatiel or a lovebird. Cockatiels and love birds aren't that big but aren't the sizes of a budgie. My cockatiel is very comical and will climb everywhere if he could! Also, both birds aren't that expensive. Overall, I paid about $500 including bird, cage, toys, & food. It depends how tame your bid will be because if you don't spend a lot of time with it, the bird won't be tame. On the other hand, if your bird is out of he cage with you and forms a bond with you, then you will have a very tame bird along with a new bestfriend. Good luck! :greycockatiel:
