Cockatiels aren't "related" to cockatoos. They are cockatoos. ;)

Well, true...but the taxonomy was changing at one point...now they're most related to the Black Cockatoo I think...and isn't it more distantly related to the more common (as pets) cockatoos?

I'd have to go look it up again...

Well, perhaps parrot people are a bit scatter brained?

I have no problem with a conversation going on tangents. That's what conversations do. If you stay totally on topic, even in print, it becomes very dry and uninspiring. These forums are not texts, which need to stay on topic .

I use the forums to exchange ideas, get advice, see what other hobbiests are doing. If it needs to be rigid and humourless I won't participate. This is relaxation for me...

I've been on various forums for many years, I have yet to see one suffer from conversations going off on tangents...however, I have seen them fold if they're too rigidly moderated.

Fortunately I don't really have allergies but I think all birds produce some amount of dander, especially when molting. When Winnie's sitting in the sunlight and does her little "shake" thing after cleaning you can literally see a cloud of dust rise into the air. Some of that is the dust that her feathers collect out of the air, but there are definitely pieces of the feather shaft coverings in it too.

I found that the dustiest birds are cockatoos, cockatiels, amazons and greys. My family has allergies, thank goodness that "gene" passed me up. Some people can be allergic to dogs or cats or birds or rabbits, not necessarily all pets, or all furry and feathered pets. Testing has to be done.

My ex-brother in law was deadly allergic to my birds. Came over once time, his eyes swelled up, and then he got mad at ME because I didn't have any allergy medicine in my medicine cabinet for him to take. Keeping lots of birds is a good thing. Sometimes they keep family members AWAY....
