Some people might think they are better looking. Maybe you even get a 'perfect bird' with the looks of one and the character of the other. Maybe the offspring is able to reproduce as well and you can breed a whole new 'species' of artificial parrot.
There are always people who will be interested in these hybrids. And as long as those people are around hybrids will be bred. In my opinion it would be a good idea to start registering hybrids to make sure you keep the hybrids seperate from the purebreds. I know that all parrots are registered in Germany, they arent as precise here in the Netherlands. How are things over seas?

there is no parrot registration like there is for dogs here in the states. if you have an unregistered dog on a walk here in arizona, i think its something like a 200 dollar fine, then they start sending you late fees in the mail for not registering them from that point on. but there is no such thing for parrots.

I do think it's a pretty bird, but I am not a fan of hybrids.

I was given a Senegal /Meyer hybrid. It was an accident as the owner had both of them and were both supposed to be male. They were buds for 10 years in the same cage and then babies!!! He is a great bird and is not UGLY!! I do not suggest that this be done, as it serves no purpose, but I sure love my guy!

Hybrids freak me out. With having both a Red-Bellied and a Senegal, it just doesn't look right at all.

You'd better watch out! You have the combination needed to make one of those hellish hybrids. Yours are opposite sex right?

Godforbid Kili and Truman ever made babies... can you just imagine a Senegal Parrot the size of Truman? Just think what Kili, Shade, Babylon, or Jessie would do if they could have a beak that big! They may think they're that big but luckily reality disagrees to some extent.

Just seeing you're response now Michael. Yes, Lucy and Jessie are male (not DNA sexed - but most people, even the vet agree he is male) and female.

I'd be more worried about Lucy being bigger and having a bigger beak to be honest because she's definitely the moodier and nippier of the two.

I generally don't think there is any reason to mess with nature and I believe breeding hybrids can cause problems for the birds so not really keen on the idea. However, I raised several "Parasol" Cockatoos who were the sweetest cockatoos ever. They were more quiet, looked like an Umbrella but smaller and with the Goffins peach color on the crown. They were the offspring of an Umbrella and a Goffins who decided to hook up on their own. The breeder knew they were buddies and wasn't trying to breed them but he did not want to separate them after they started producing since they were bonded so... he gets several of these Parasols a year. I'm okay with that scenario.

Wow I never ever knew that you could breed two different types of poicephalus birds before. I always thought it was impossible! I do like hybrids but again why mess with nature. If its happens on its own I think its cool but to force breed them I am not so sure. I have a senegal in with two meyers and an amazon. Does this mean if they are both different sex that could happen??????? I only have one meyers sexed and she is a female, the others I have no idea. Very interesting...

I think the hybrid birdies are adorable too. I don't agree with intentionally producing them, but I certainly wouldn't call them ugly.

i do not cage my two together (male senegal, female red belly) but it is not out of the question. i will not force them to breed, but i do catch them doing their "dance" together. i try to stop them the moment i find them, and i want them to have cage time out, not be punished cause they love eachother. so if theres a viable egg on the bottom of my red bellys cage, what am i supposed to do, kill the baby? i would feel so horrible. Just a "what if" scenario.
