I still don't understand why you call them "African Red Bellies." They are formally known as the Red-Bellied Parrot. Look, Poicephalus.org says so and the official site of poicephalus parrots couldn't possibly be wrong

Wikipedia says so too in case you won't take my word for it.

I'm not sure why you have some issue against me calling it that, i'm pretty sure that no one else cares, and the fact that i'm calling it an african red belly instead of a red-bellied parrot is really nit-picky, its like calling a yellow nape amazon a yellow fronted (or necked) amazon. even your cape can be called a cape parrot, a grey headed parrot, the uncape parrot.. take your pick. lol. every one has different ways of saying things(or even pronouncing things). so GET OFF MY BACK. :p

I'm pretty sure you don't even own an AFRICAN RED BELLY so back on topic... anyone got some cute stuff going on lately?

and since my other post was deleted i will reiterate that your website, just because you created it, is not the official or only source of information on poicephalus refiventris.

information contained in domain names are free to find, just like wikipedia!but actually, more reliable. ;)

also i specifically put "poicephalus rufiventris" so there was no confusion to the crimson bellied conure at all (a Pyrrhura Family member).

Those were merely the two quickest sources for me to cite off the top of my head. The Senegal Parrot book about the Poicephalus parrots and the Parrot Encyclopedia refer to them as Red Bellied Parrots as well. I was going to scan the pages to show you but my books are currently on loan to my brother who's been writing researched profiles of Poicephalus Parrots.

Here are more sites calling them Red Bellied Parrot:

http://animal-world.com/encyclo/birds/p ... Parrot.php
http://www.wingscc.com/aps/re-desc.htm
http://www.pamperedpeeps.com/redbellies.htm

This site called them African Red Belly in the title (probably for search indexing) but then calls them Red Bellied Parrot Throughout:

Natacha and Ivzer call them Red Bellied Parrots:

memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2205

Your voluntary choice to call it something other than the commonly accepted name is counter productive to our goal of exchanging information about parrots. You are just going to make people who seek information even more confused.

man those names are nearly identical xD why such the huff? there are so many species with multiple names out there so at least these two names are similiar (as opposed to monk parrot and quaker parrot etc.) and I being someone who doesn't know much about poicephalus in general could infer that they were the same species. oh, and michael, I think if you list the other common names each species is called on your website, that would help clear up confusion as well :) lol, sorry I don't have a red belly to post cute things about ;) I'm not helping get this on topic, huh?

I've seen them called both and here is some fuel for the fire...Also Known As: Orange-bellied Parrot, African Orange-bellied Parrot, Red-breasted Parrot, Abyssinian Parrot.

Anyway, back on topic... my Red Bellied, Nicholas stb Nicodemus, is a great talker. He tells me good night and sleep well when I cover him at night. He also says dang it whenever he drops something which is my favorite thing he says! Here is a list of some other things he says mostly in context;
I love you, Achoo! Excuse me, Nicholas parrrot! Nicholas parrot!, Bye Bye, See you later, Bye Bye Dax, Bye Bye precious birds, Dax! Be quiet, No screaming! (whenever the other birds are being loud, he's my little hall monitor :D ), Yoshimi! (my cat), will you step up for me?, Bring you fresh water?, various sounds he's picked up like water gurgling etc., and there are more but of course I can't think of them right now.

In the third picture, you can really see the blue/green sheen that their feathers have in the light. You really have to see one in person to see their full beauty.

pchela i love nicodemus... he reminds me of my red bellies colorations. for some reason, with the heavy orange and not such a red and his green is lime green!
