Pyrrhuras

Postby kdionisios » Sat Aug 14, 2010 4:45 pm

Hello

I really like conures and especially pyrrhuras!

I am thinking of getting one.
My favorite of all are Crimson bellied and Painted Conure, but unfortunately Crimson Bellied conures are extremely rare in my country.

I've read so many think about these species but I couldn't come into conclussion regarding pet quality and noise level .

Some people say that they make excellent pets. That they are cuddly, they really bond with their human flock and these birds considered to be quite (I live in an appartement and noise level is important to me).

Some other people say that these birds can be really nippy and scream really loud!

I would appreciate to know your opinion and especially from people that own the above species.

And one last question.
Is it better to have a single bird or two birds from the same nest at once?
If I'll have two siblings in the same cage will be ok or there will be problems regarding agresiveness e.t.c They will bond with me or not?
And what happens when they will rich sexual maturity?

If they will be two males or two females in the same cage will be ok?

I hope that I am not making to many questions! :$

Keep only one parrot per cage unless you are breeding(not recomended). As for qualities, each parrot is different. Some scream other cuddle, some nip and others become best friends. It all depends on the bird's personality and the quality of your care to him. What country do you live in?

I have a green cheek conure which is considered one of the quietest conures. She can be loud when she is desperate for attention but not as loud as some of the larger parrots. I must say she is a very cuddly bird and really likes people, wanting as much attention as she can get. conures in general are said to be nippy birds... mine is, but she doesn't bite hard at all and it really varies from bird to bird (I know another who is a complete sweatheart and never bites). a single bird is easier to train and bonds to their owner as apposed to most birds purchased as a pair. there is something about conure's clownish personality that I just love =) good luck finding a bird!

As far as I understand it all depends on each birds character.
I am not looking for a bird that you hardly hear it's voice. Yes, I know that all birds have their times that scream.
I just wanted to be sure that pyhrrura's do not scream so loud and all the time in order to disturb my neighbours.

I found one breeder that has Painted Conures babies ready to go to their new homes.
If I won't have any news regarding Crimson Bellied Conure ( I am waiting for an answer from Holland), I think that will go for the Painted Conures.

About having one or two birds I would like to share with you that I like the fact that my bird will have a cage mate and nice company while I will be at work. And I think that it will be really nice to see them playing, prinining eachother e.t.c
As well as i believe when they have a cage mate they will probably will make less noise because they will play together and will not get bored as fast .
Does it make any sense?
If I will have two birds they will be the siblings from the breeder with the Painted Conures that they grew together. This breeder told me that they won't have any problem when they will be in the same cage. He also told me that if they will be male and female they won't mate unless I put a nesting box in their cage.
He was pretty sure about that.

I cross my fingers to have a positive answer about the Crimson Bellied Conure because it is my favorite of all
