Eclecyus

Postby Saphira2010 » Fri Aug 20, 2010 8:53 pm

I am a new Solomon Island Eclectus owner..my "baby" is 6 months old and she just came home Thursday the 19th. She seems to be doing okay but does anyone have any tips about the adjustment period? she is eating well and she will obey the UP and Down commands but I am worried that I am talking to her too much. Also, she had a mate and perpahs she is missing her flock? Any advice would be welcome.
Thank You

Welcome to the forum.

You need to judge how the bird is interacting with you. Sometimes you need to give a bird a week or so to settle in before you expect too much from them - this can be a very stressful time for a bird. I don't think you can talk to the bird too much. If she isn't showing interest in being handled yet, try talking to her and keep her cage close to where you spend most of your time ... so she can get used to having you around. Then she if she'll take treats from you and go from there.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I agree with Jess. It took my cockatiel nearly a month to settle in, and my caique took a week before she decided she would keep us. :D

Congrats on your new "red hot mama"!

As said before, it can take a little time for her to settle in. But I think talking to her is a great thing to do. You said she is 6 mos? She is probably too young to really have had a "mate", she may miss her former flockmates, but is still young enough to move on with out problems.

I love eclectus, be ready for some fun times!
