Cape Parrot

Jean wants to give me the 2nd of the two which is about two weeks behind the originally planned one. So that's a few more weeks of waiting.

May I ask why she wants to give you the second?

its still the male? the one in the photos with more feathers or less? and yea why??

The second one is male as well and the younger (less feathered) from the original picture. I requested originally that she get me the biggest cape possible as I already have a small Senegal so why not get the biggest cape? She says the younger one, though two weeks behind, is not only getting bigger but also demonstrating a sweeter disposition. The originally planned one is from a larger wild caught pair while the younger is from a smaller domestic pair. So Jean expected the one from larger parents to be bigger but it turned out the other way around.

It looks like I may end up with the one that is related to someone else's Cape Parrot on this forum. Maria from Purring Parrot got a Cape from Jean less than two years ago from Angie/Magnum. Jupiter turned out quite large and Maria loves his disposition, so I'm not disappointed about the switch up. Jean has been harness training and treating both parrots equally anyway.

New update:

Both babies are fully weened. The older flies more and gets into trouble a lot. Meanwhile the younger one is flight capable but prefers to play with his toys or people when he is out. So now it is almost certain Jean will send me the younger one. All that is left is for it to get a little more flight experience and get the vet tests done. I'm having Jean's vet test the bird cause my vet sucks. I already sent the final check out today. So it's not impossible that I could get the new parrot by the end of the week.

Jean has been really bad about sending pics. She sent those few I posted a while back and I've been asking her for photos ever since. I haven't gotten any photos besides those and doubt I'll get any more till the bird arrives. Once I get the bird, the rest is under my control.

Oh I would have been disappointed as well not getting pictures more frequently.

I got a new update. Jean is taking the baby to the Vet this Friday for final tests, grooming, and banding. She said she thinks the parrot is right footed (like Kili) so the band will go on left foot. Assuming everything is alright with the vet checks, I should be able to expect it on Tuesday or Thursday next week (as those are her preferred shipping days). So if all goes well, should be getting it on Tuesday.

I just have to make some last minute preparations:

-Clean the new cage
-Start putting in toys/perches
-Get another lamp for that area
-Buy black sheet to use as cage cover
-Hang water bottle and adjust food bowls

Oh and Jean weighed the parrots and said the older one is 296g and the younger is 316g and that there is a visible size difference. So it looks like I'm going with the younger one afterall. She said that I can expect it to bulk up a bit more over time and reach up to about 350g.

I'm sorry to get off topic. But don't they get a closed footring?
Is that a regular thing in America or is there a specific reason she chose to do it this way?

Back on topic. I'm very happy for you and I cant wait to see pictures. Capes are very beautifull birds, I never heard of them before I got on this forum.
