I may be getting a white bellied caique

Postby notscaredtodance » Tue Sep 28, 2010 5:49 pm

Besides a cockatoo, which is just too much bird for me, my dream bird is a caique. I was at my avian vet today and saw a flyer willing to sell the bird, cage, and some supplies for $750.

I haven't even called yet, but to get the bird and a cage (hopefully suitable size) for that price would be such a steal. I wasn't planning on adding another bird for a while, but again. It would be a steal. It's been DNA sexed and had vet checkups. It's 1 and a half years old.... seems too good to be true! I just hope it's not.

I have really limited experience with them. I took care of one at the pet store for about a month, but it was a sweet bird from what I remember.

I tried calling and it was really weird.. the person said they were in the hospital. I dont know what was going on. I'm afraid to call again and ask about the bird. They sounded like they were under anesthesia.

Try again in a couple of days. It may be health problems forcing the rehome.

I hear Caiques can be a handful! But they sound like a lot of fun.

"Handful" is an understatement...

And I agree, wait a couple days. Or leave a gentle message if you can asking about it.

yeah, i hear you! Skittles wasn't in my plans either, but not only was she such a good deal, it was a rare opportunity i just couldn't let pass.
especially knowing what a good home i could give her, and who knows where she could have ended up.
yeah, sometimes fate intervenes with the best of plans, and we just have to go with it.

Funny how we don't plan to add another member to the family but somehow it just happens anyway.

Caiques are fun little bundles of mischief. They are a lot of bird to handle, but if you can handle your Senegal, then I doubt you'll have any trouble. I wouldn't recommend them to beginners because they can be extremely stubborn and need somebody who they can't boss around or intimidate to provide them with structure and guidance. But, they are so much fun and so comical! They'll have you laughing all of the time. So worth the extra work!

:( Well, I called, and the bird has already found a home. I didn't ask too many questions, because they didn't seem to thrilled to have to talk to me in the first place. Just not really friendly people. So. No great deal on a caique for me.
