This probably doesn't help much, but when they're absolute babies (< 2 weeks old) they're like... 90% legs, I swear. Very, very cute.

All I've heard about them is that they're very active - bit like lorikeets but not as noisy.

I also know that they're pretty tiny, about the size of cockatiels. Then the females are much smaller then the males by quite a bit.

My males and females were about the same size. Not much of a difference.
They are in hight about the size of a cockatiel, but are much heavier in build.
Kika: Senegal Parrot.
Guus: Cockatiel, Yellowcheek, cinnamon, pearl, pied.

I went to a pet store nearby the other day looking for toys for Barney. There were two 'cinnamon kakarikis' - $300 AUD for the pair of them.

First time I've actually seen the adults in person - very cute little birds. I was kind of saddened though - while the cages were clean and that, all the birds there seemed so sad and listless :( There was also a male eclectus, a pied red rump parrot, a bunch of budgies, lovebirds, and two handraised Alexandrine parakeets. None of them looked happy /sigh.

It really, really does. I came close to getting the pied red rump and the kakarikis (the eclectus and alexandrines were upward of 1k *each* and I just don't have that kind of money O.o), but with Barney coming home so soon, I don't want to dare getting a bird from a pet store due to the health issues that they can have. Not to mention the cost of another cage, a vet check... :( I don't mean to sound completely against pet stores, but I'm yet to find one that has happy, active birds in it. These ones seemed healthy physically at least I suppose.

My local petsmart actually seems to have healthy happy birds. Whenever I go there there's usually two medium sized parrots, and they both sing and play.

http://toetallybirds.webs.com/birdsforsale.htm This is the website of the breeder I'm getting Barney from. As you can see, she has a pied kakariki baby for sale for $120. Tell me not to get it, I haven't even gotten Barney home yet! :? She's also handraising two baby eclectus parrots. They're close to the 'ultimate parrot' for me... only $850 as well (compared to the pet store that had one non-handraised for $1500). GAH.

See, before I joined this forum, I was just ecstatic I was getting a cockatiel. I still am, don't get me wrong, but you've all got such a variety of parrots, and I've turned into a little kid going "I want this one, and this one, and this one!" I blame you guys <3 Crazy bird-ladydom, here I come
