Parrotlet Breeding Habits

I was just reading this pdf on the breeding habits of parrotlets and I think Cass and Plato may be thinking starting a brood. I discourage it (separate cages and lots of time out of thier cages and I don't provide nesting boxes or anything nesty in the cages) and they are a bro-sis from the same clutch. I was told by the breeder that a bro-sis parrotlet pair from the same clutch will not breed. Does anyone know if this is true?

I've seen some of the courtship behaviors that this pdf talks about (flipping of wings and spreading wings) between these two, but it's subtle I didn't recognize the behaviors as such. I thought it's just what they do. I also read that parrotlets can start early- before a year! Cass and Plato are very young, so maybe this is just practice? They are bro-sis and that's just yucky! LOL.

Last week we lost Cass for 24 hours. That was a harrowing experience and we thought for a while that we lost her. My boys were devastated. Luckily she was just inside the loveseat. Yes, inside the thing. There's a rip in the material that covers the bottom of the loveseat and she is so small she managed to climb UNDER the loveseat and inside this hole. In retrospect, I think she was looking for a nesting site. She spent 24 hours there! She's fine now thankfully.

So will boy-girl parrotlet siblings mate? What about other parrot or parakeet species? Cass and Plato are already bonded, that much is certain.

That breeder was VERY wrong. They answered the question today. The kids were on the perch and when I looked up, they got up on the good foot and did the bad thing. I just hope Cass is OK when she lays those eggs- She's too young. They have no breeding box and the eggs will just get thrown out.
