Poi noise level.. High to low

Postby Boman » Sat Dec 25, 2010 11:08 am

Hey all,

Quick question!
In your opinion, or by fact, which poi tends to be the noisiest... And which is the quietest?
If you could rank the subspecies from highest to lowest, that'd be great...
Eg,
rb 1
Sennie 2
Jardines 3

And yes i understand that every bird is different...but a general idea is what I am interested in.

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Bo

You said it yourself - every bird is different.

My Senegal is my quietest bird - but I know some owners who have Senegals who are very loud.

I think all the small Pois have the same potential for noise level - in fact, their body are pretty much alike and the main difference when you look from one to another is the colours they have.

I assume the volume of the Jardines and (un)Capes can be louder, since they are bigger bird - but I don't have much one on one experience with them to tell you if they are in fact louder than the smaller ones.

Does anyone have any audio cilps of their Senegl being at their absolute loudest? I'm curious if I've heard the loudest Akilah has to offer yet.

Of the pois I've had living with me.... Meyers is the loudest, then Senegal, then Red Belly then Jardines.

I don't have an audio clip... sorry!

See, with me the order is slightly different:

Meyer's are the loudest (both of mine are more noisy than my others), then the Red-bellieds (they chat a lot) and then my Senegal (very quiet bird).

I don't have any audio clip either.

My Meyer's is pretty noisy. When I first got her I posted that she was much quieter than the only other bird I've had - a cockatiel - but I think she's definitely at least that noisy. I read that they're noisier during adolescence or just after being weaned, so that might be what this is, but I guess only time will tell :) Right now she's only quietened down because she's busy with a chunk of apple :D

My cockatiel is much noisier than my senegal. He is usually very quiet. Whistles every now and then, or clicks if he wants to know where I am.
But we have a little puppy since last week and we got her some squeeky toys. I think we may have made a mistake there....
Kika has been making high pitched screeching noises since the pup arived. We think he is trying to immitate the squeeky toys, but isnt quite nailing it. Result is a very annoying loud screech that I never would have thought any senegal could make!
Kika: Senegal Parrot.
Guus: Cockatiel, Yellowcheek, cinnamon, pearl, pied.

In my house here's the order:

1 - My senegal is the loudest
2 - My Red Belly is the second loudest - but she just does a lot of talking
3 - My Meyers is the quietest, however she may be moved into 2nd place in the next little while. She's picking up some habits from my Senegal and vocalizing more - or it could just be that she's finally starting to feel more comfortable here since we adopted her in October 2010. She is so cute because she does excited vocalizations whenever I come home.

I only have one Senegal, but I don't really find him to be overly noisy, unless it's morning and he wants me to get up lol.
