Meyers Vs. Senegals Vs. Jardine

Do Meyer's parrots make good pets?

I'm not sure if i like the Senegal or Meyers

Senegal's so far i have heard that they need to be socialized when their young,or they will turn into a one person bird

I'm not sure if it is the same with Meyers parrots

Which bird talks better Meyers or Senegal's?

Which do you think is the better pet?

I don't know much about Jardine's they seem to have a pretty good talking ability.

I think all birds need proper socialization so they won't become one person birds. My cockatiel loves me, but he only tolerates my mom and my little brother. That's only because they are semi-interested in him. As for my step-dad, sister and strangers, he is completely fearful of them.

And cockatiels are supposed to be good for being social.

Jessica, I am in the same boat as you! I cant make up my mind as to which poi best suites my wife and I. The sennies are most popular due to how many were imported up until the early 90's. They have the rep of being a 1 person bird, but every bird is different. They are probably the most feistiest as well. They love attention. Talking potential is pretty decent from what i understand.

The meyers have a rep for being a little more mellow than the sennie. Apparently they "love loving you." their talking potential is lower than the sennie. I'm not sure as to how one-person they can be tho. They are also the smallest of the poi family.

Jardines are slightly larger and seem to be quite content most of the time... Talking potential is slightly higher than a sennie.. I don't know much about these guys.

I'm leaning towards the brown headed parrot as ive heard nothing but great things from breeders, owners and the like. Altho they lack the flashy colors, they make up for it in personality.

I hope this helps... I'm new to the parrot world, so if anything that i have written is incorrect, please lemme know

Cheers, Bo

It is the same with Meyer's parrot. While I read a lot that Meyer's are better "family" pets, they can very well become one person individuals. Both of my guys came from a rescue and the eldest one is definitively a one-person bird and can tolerate other men but will attack women. The other one I got when he was still fairly young but since he was left to himself for the better part of his first and a half year of life (owner had cancer and went for treatments and eventually passed away) and was very shy/nervous around people. He needed a lot of socialization and while he's getting better, he still does need to be worked with. My Senegal, who I socialized early on, is a far better adjusted pet.

Which bird talks better Meyers or Senegal's?

I don't think one has better talking abilities than the other. If you get a bird that will learn to talk, and this is truly an individual thing, I find that all small Poicephalus have the same type of high pitch robotic voice. By the way, Poicephalus are not known to be the best talkers.

Which do you think is the better pet?

If you get a properly socialized individual, I don't think one is necessarily better than the other.
