Omg Nanday Conures

Postby GlassOnion » Sun Jan 09, 2011 7:41 pm

I was looking around at conure breeds today, and saw the nanday conures.
This bird is soooo beautiful with the black head and the striking blue/navy feathers on a green background! I think it beats any other conure in beauty, even the suns.
What does everyone else think?

I have a Nanday named Jimmy the Hood. He's about 3. I am his 4th owner. I am amazed at his intelligence and the way he expresses his emotions. I coined a phrase with Jimmy: "beak assertive". I understand that it can be a tendency of the breed. On the more positive side nipping is a true compass for getting to know a Nanday's boundaries, a very important one if you intend to handle your bird at all. In reading I found that it is a good thing to trick train Nandays. It seems to help them to be more composed companions. I know that route had an immediate and lasting positive effect on this lovely bird.

Jimmy just finished a molt and his colors are truly striking particularly the almost neon green.

One thing I was searching for on the internet is if there are personality differences between the various breeds of the Aratinga group? Most websites seem to write about the personalities of conures in general, but not so much on the individual breeds of the sub-species.

@zaza, More like legwarmers! :D

I like going to Youtube and searching for the various breeds then watch the videos that people post to get a general idea of the species general personality as well as I get insights or ideas that I hadn't even thought of before. You might want to try that.
