Ducorps Cockatoo

Postby Rueae » Mon Jan 10, 2011 3:17 am

I was wondering if anyone here had any first hand knowledge about this cockatoo.
I've been coming across various things that mention their noise level is "low". I find this a little hard to believe of any cockatoo, but a few searches looking for one screaming has yielded me no results.
I did however find this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQOxQf-Nf64 , and I wonder how much different a scream could be than a baby's whine. That in the video, I could deal with.

I'm searching for first hand knowledge in general not just about the screaming and of course and open to any thoughts or what have you that isn't first hand.

I don't have one, but a good friend of mine does (she has a bunch of birds, a Ducorps, a Rose-breasted, a CAG, an ekkie, I can't remember what else). But she says her Ducorps does NOT fit the "quiet" reputation... it is as LOUD as can be!!!! I was actually doing some research into them a while back and she is probably the most knowledgeable person on Ducorps that I know. She explained basically that because they're so uncommon there isn't much of a buyer/seller market at all so one of the big (or only) Ducorps breeders was publishing information about them on the internet to get more info out there and in an effort to raise interest, wrote that they were quieter-- this was basically the seed that started this false reputation for quietness. Ducorps are just as loud as any other 'too and my friend's Ducorps in particular is kind of a nutcase-- she says he's by far the most "neurotic" 'too she's ever met.

No worries. They are so uncommon and there is so little information out there and that information isn't great-- I'd hate to see someone bring one home expecting a quieter parrot and be very unpleasantly surprised.

Our friend just got one. It seems similar to our goffin, but a little bigger.
Will let you know more later as it is still new to us all and less than a year old.

Here is Nala, ducorps about 8months.
She still begs all the time even though her owner ( ShellyJeepGirl ) has never hand fed her.
It may seem cute, but it gets old pretty fast. From our research this long term weaning has been noted in other ducorps.
She is very similar in sound and demeanor to our goffin, but about 30% larger.
