Touncans are actually very quiet compared to many other parrots, with the exception of a couple large species I believe.. For the lack of such vocalizations, they also cannot mimick speech. and hmm I've never heard of toucans eating birds! :o

For their price of 1500 for aracaris and up to 5000 for the large toucans, 20 years definitely sounds short, but for people who feel burdened with 50+years of ownership for a large bird, it may be an option!

I still hope for my purring, couch-napping green aracari. :D

Anyone wanting to read up on toucans, check out this site. This is a huge breeder has the most information on pet toucans than anywhere else.

It would probably come down to one of two for me: a White Capped Pionus or a Brown Headed Parrot. I have been researching both for information and for fun (dreaming really). The difficulty for me is that there are no Alberta breeders for these parrots (they all seem to be down East) and it is rare for them to show up in rescue organizations. There was a White Capped recently, but I have never seen a Brown Headed.

Good thing I can still dream about it though. Maybe someday....

You can find Brown Headed parrots in Quebec. I'm sure some breeders are shipping across Canada. If you really want one, it's possible. I had one for a few months, they are really nice little birds, although very clingy. Mine tried to be with me all the time, non-stop.

I think it would have to be an amazon of some kind, probably a blue fronted amazon. Of course, I tend to fall in love with every baby I see.

You guys thinking about the pionus, I have to say our little blue headed pionus is the sweetest bird in the world.

Toss up between a Cape Parrot, a Male Red Sided Eclectus or a Black Palm Cockatoo.

Others may disagree with me, but I personally don't see the beauty in the black palm's that everyone seems to notice.

I'd love a St. Vincent or Imperial Amazon. I also love macaws. There's a number of other parrots I'd love to have but those are the main ones I'd like right now.
