Hahn's Macaw! HELP!

Postby jeansieluvszazoo » Wed Mar 02, 2011 10:24 pm

Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum! I just want to introduce myself a little bit, I currently have a 1 and a half year old Indian Ring neck and I am looking at adopting a Hahn's Macaw.
I have read some posts as well as some information on the type of bird on the internet.
However, I want to hear from real people who have these birds and see what they are like.
Please, if anyone could inform me that would be great!
Thanks in advance! :irn:

What exactly would you like to know? Volume? Activity level? Etc.? I grew up with a lovely Hahn's Macaw.

I have a Hahns too. I researched every aspect but was always a little curious about the owners. Everyone sorta implied these birds are a bit um, bi-polar so to speak......Once you have one you will know. He can be a bit crazy too and will try to bite my ear, I just brush him off so to speak. He know if he tries to bite me he does not get to stay with me...He also is a great cuddler, i kiss him under his wings and talk softly and he humms it is so cute!!

I think they are alot like a dog in intellingence and handling. My bird is great. I have never considered if he is afraid of a toy or food or whatever, i just offer it and he happily accepts it. He eats anything I give him. When he came from the breeder he did not arrive with any pellets or sample food ,nothing, so I had planned on feeding him Harrisons. I gave him the pellets, no problem, he eats pasta, veggies, fruit, pellets, Abba green mush, cereal Kashi Go Lean, raisins, eggs, Greek style plain yogurt with berries and granola.... whatever,

He has no split personality issues. He can be man-handled and loves it. He is not too loud, he talks alot does tons of tricks and is still learning more. He likes everyone in the family (4 kids) he is fully flighted and his feathers are more beautiful in person......

Because he is flighted we play hide and seek and it is sooo funny cause I will hide in a doorway and he flys by looking for me and if he sees me he stops mid air and turns to get me!! I will try to get it on video!

He is the best.

sometimes rehomed birds have problems idk if you adopted yours but i bought my blue headed pionus rehomed and i love him to death but he attacks people lol.. im trying to get him to not do that but my grandma had to feed him once while i was at work and he went on the floor trying to bite her feet chasing her out of the room.. so try to find out what kind of personality the bird has before you decide to adopt. i think its awesome that your considering getting him :D i wouldnt trade marty for any other bird in the world hes awesome even though he attacks people haha <3
