Postby coral » Thu Mar 03, 2011 3:42 pm

So ive been wondering for a while is it true that love birds that are bonded if one dies will the other die to? and if their bonded to a human then given to a different human would they die then? Just curious :swaying:
A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song. <3

From personal experience we have had 2 die over the years. The remaining bird did not seem overly affected. You might ask ShellyJeepGirl, I know she has lovebirds.

I think that could happen to any bird really. I've heard stories where budgies soon die after a mate out of loneliness. But I have to think that maybe the bird really didn't die of loneliness but more from whatever killed the first bird.

My step dad had a lovebird for many years, and she was always kept as a single bird. She lived a very happy life.

I know a woman who had owned lovebirds in the past. She had one pair for a number of years, then one of them died. After a while she added a new lovebird in the cage, and the first lovebird moved on.

I think a lot of people have misconceptions about lovebirds. They don't always need to be in a pair. Just like any other parrot. However, they do need a companion, which comes of the form of us owners.
