Another Poi question..

Postby Boman » Thu Mar 17, 2011 7:11 pm

Hey all,

My wife and I will be ready to take on a feathered friend pretty soon and have been contemplating as to which subspecies of poi would suit us best. We're wondering which poi, stereotypically, has the best rep for being friendly with most people, and new people that he/she is introduced to. Granted the bird is socialized properly at a young age. We understand that every bird is different, but would like some feedback to help us narrow down our search.

Thanks a bunch!

I did a lot of research about different poi's too, and though I decided to get a Senegal, from what I researched Red Bellies seems like, in general, they were the most endearing..but also more playful and active. Of course those are generalizations, and I'm sure there are people who will object lol.

I did some research on Pois as well, to see which one would match my flock the best. What I found was the red bellies were the most out going with new people.

Persnally I would get a red bellied or a jardine mostly because I like playful birds, and they can also talk a bit better than others in the group.

My Senegal is great with everyone, although she does observe strangers at first.

My Red-bellieds are definitively the more outgoing. Joey is a total ham and flirts with anyone new. Pixel is great with strangers as well, as long as I'm around..

I would say try to meet a few and see with whom you form a bond :)

Generalization. My eldest Meyer's is the best articulate talker out of my guys.

Eh no worries - I had read the same.
And while my two Red-bellieds are definitively more "chatty", it's often incomprehensible chatter. Pixel does know a few articulate words though, but not as much as Petey.
