budgie or lovebird ?

Postby coolhady13 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 6:06 am

well guys , after a lot of researching .it came dowm to this 2 , a budgie or a lovebird , i want something that i would be able to tame and train easily .and train on recalls and stuff like , I read in kathleen budgie faq that it would be hard to teach a budgie some tricks because its small and ground feeding ,so i think a lovebird is bigger :D . Tell me your opinion guys

Where are you planning on getting your bird from? If you're going to get it from a pet supplies store like PetCo or PETsMART, either of the two aren't going to be very well socialized and will need a lot of work. Many people have had negative experiences with pet supply store birds that were sold as hand tame when they actually aren't.

I've seen budgies do a lot of neat things, including skateboarding and playing basketball. They are smaller, but can still be taught to do a ton of fun things. It just takes time, patience, and a lot of effort. I don't have a lot of experience with lovebirds, but I have read that they can be territorial and not too friendly. Every bird is different though, so I would suggest you go see a breeder and hang out with a few of each species before making your decision.

well, im from egypt and there isnt many breeders here and it would be very hard to find one but there is many pet stores . So wither my choice is budgie or lovebird it will be from a pet store . I like both birds so much and i realy dnt know what to choose :D its just that lovebirds seem to be more cooler because they are bigger but the friendly thing that im worried about ,very confusing :D . Thank for your help :)

Budgies may be small, but they're so full of energy and a real hoot to watch. I wouldn't underestimate them because of their size, especially because any bird you get will take a lot of work and patience.

Be sure to take a lot of pictures when you get it. I'd love to see the new little one!

It's important to realize that pet store birds are pretty much wild birds, and lovebirds are a lot harder to tame than budgies. Youre looking at several months of taming here. Like kaylah mentioned, a breeder would be most ideal. The extra few bucks it costs by getting a handfed baby is really really worth it.
