If you're housing multiple birds together, you should be sure to quarantine the new addition for at least 30 days. You want to make sure that neither bird is sick or able to get the others sick. You should also be prepared for the birds already in a cage to not be too happy about the new bird. Some birds get very territorial about their cage and don't take too kindly to having a new cagemate.

A budgie will not die if he's not with any other birds. Just make sure to give it a lot of attention and interaction. I had only one budgie for three months before I decided to get another. She was fine and healthy because I paid a lot of attention to her. She was in traffic filled area of the apartment and had a lot of time both in and out of her cage.

You should also be prepared to spend equal amounts of time with every bird you have. I don't think it's really fair to one set of birds to be cage birds and have one that is a tame bird. I spend time with all three of my birds equally. My budgies are housed together and are bonded to eachother so they don't really like to spend a lot of time with me.

A bird housed with another bird will be harder to train, but it isn't impossible. Just like any bird, it will take a lot of time and effort to train. If you are able to find a breeder, that would be best and those birds would probably be easier to train, but training a store bought bird has been done.

Nope, it won't die. Just make sure to give it a lot of attention and toys. My budgies are particularly fond of swings, rope toys, and bells.

Take pictures of your new little guy and his new cage. We always love to see them here.

Are they tame? Taming 2 birds will take a lot more effort than 1, and will always prefer each other over you.

I would suggest not encouraging mating, especially if these are your first birds and you aren't sure how to properly take care of them yet. Without a nest box, they shouldn't feel the need to mate. But I'm curious, are the budgies old enough that you can tell what sex they are? Most budgies aren't able to be sexed definitively by sight until their cere changes to its final color.

I'm assuming you're trying to target train and using a target stick to place near the budgies, and if so, Michael has a bunch of great articles about it in the Training/Taming section. I don't think it matters which you work with first, but you should work with them both equally. My budgies love millet spray, so you could try using some millet to get them to calm down and interact with you.
