Ex stole my Senegal Parrot

Postby mometal77 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 8:09 am

My ex fiance lives in canada and that is where I purchased the bird back in June right around my Birthday. I read into how Senegal parrots cannot be around other birds and she has a talking, flying cockatiel. So it was agreed on it cannot stay at her place for a long period of time.

So Feather butt I so named him was going to be a great present and friend to me. She bought a cage for the parrot and I was making arrangements with the Us Customs to bring the bird down to my place in the states later on. On Wed was the only time they check out birds/animals and costed around 55 dollars for the inspection.

So my fiance became really sick for the month of june and july and it put a damper on me bringing the bird down over I was caring for her 98 percent of the week. I became sick from what she had and was sick for 2 months after we broke up.

Half way through July came around and for two weeks she didnt have communication and would not return my calls. I would show up and even though she was at work I would not go into her place unless she was there. Keep in mind I was paying half the bills in cash. She said it was not working out and I said okay let her have her own space "I am thinking" over she is going through a lot of stress.

I called her mum to go to her place and get my belongings in the end. Final straw with her after she called me out of the blue and I drove and she was not there. Later on I found out she was calling the rcmp to catch me and missed me every time I showed. How stupid.

I had a trip planned for xmas and over 2800 saved for an engagment ring. Her mum said her daughter has done this to about every man before me. And I was the longest relationship she has ever had. Gee thanks for the input NOW. Last guy beat her up dragged her by her hair down the corridor. The other one before him did her in with a ski pole to her neck and tried to rape her in her fathers place.

I went by her place with my mum to give bird food on multiple occassions.

So after her drunk tenant above her apartment on one occassion with my mum yelled at us what are you doing. He told my ex I was trying to break in. Why I had keys to the place. I had an extra spare set after giving back the ones she paid for. She was on the lease and I was trying to be civil about all this. I had purchased 300 in plants and they where mostly all dead as a way for her to get back at me. I had no idea if she committed suicide she was going through a lot and always had neck pain from the previous attacks I found out all this later on.

The rcmp left 2 messages on my cell and I called him back saying she invited me over and did not show up at the residence. I went to walmart and purchased an international calling card to call me. The rcmp never called back. She said I tried to break into the apartment and was harrassing. So with small claims I filed and for the money left at the apartment she filed a 12k harrassment charge against me and some 200 parking fees i was paying to have my car parked there... She says it was a gift. The bird cost me me around 600 bucks..

Court is in a month and a half and I just want to know if any of you have gone through this? Its funny how the court works in British Columbia. I sent her a certified letter and it was sent back refusing to sign for it. After talking to her mum it was the best way to approach to get my stuff back. At first I was going to send her mum a letter asking for all this but that would have been a waist of time. I filed for small claims and had to pay someone to serve her.

What I found out about all this.
I found out if you ever have a bf/gf who change's there phone number 2 times through a relationship something is up. Warning flags all over and comments you have to remember people give you in relationships. Not everyone can be a princess. I guess after watching in canada your a princess there are these kind of people out there that use you for your paycheck and dump you after they get bored with you. I simply think she found another man.

Any advice?

There's really nothing you can do besides show up for court with all the documentation you have available. Receipts for the bird, bird supplies, and whatever else you have should be helpful. Even then, she could say the bird was a gift from you and there's really no way you could dispute it.

If you do get the bird back, bringing it from Canada into the U.S. will require a quarantine process. I'm not entirely sure how this works, but I'm sure you could do a quick google search to find out. I would assume this may be a bit stressful for the bird if it's used to regular handling and attention.

If you don't get the bird back, she may be required to reimburse you for the cost of the bird and any other damages incurred. If that's the case, as hard as it may be to think about and do, I'd buy another companion parrot from a breeder in the U.S.

You'll have to let us know what happens, but I certainly wish you the best of luck getting your bird back. I would go crazy if someone stole my birds from me.

If someone stole my birds, I'd come after them with a cross bow.

I'm really sorry about your situation. I hope you get your senegal gets returned to you, and that your ex sorts her life out.

Thanks guys for your insight... i guess i am just rambling on but if you ever live with someone or move out of your apt into someone you are dating. Keep receipts and if and when you first move out take everything and make copies of the keys to the place.

I am in the process of buying a house and it would have been nice to have my parrot back but we will see. Just funny how people treat each other in the world.

Yes I agree from brining birds into the states there might be a hassle with this. But the border did tell me it is a 55 dollar fee.

I will keep you informed... just need to get character references from friends and family.

Well today was mitigation. I swear if any of you have to go to do any of this and the other person lashes out with disrespect yells and screams and the person running the conference does not do jack all stand up and say well lets go to court.

The woman said birds can live together in cages but from what i learned from here is they are territorial and will kill other birds...

Just been dealing with this and a friends father passing away easter morning...

One thing about canadian small claims is they want me to give her my personal information bank, cell phone records ect...

I took my aunt and mum along with me since my mom was a witness she had to leave this woman was yelling "get the hell out of here" nothing was said like shut the hell up. And what a pain in the butt... her mom was right about her... what a winner... If dating or rooming with someone rule of thumb the day you leave even if you have rent paid take everything. My issue was i had no where to put the bird in canada which was 30 min from my home in the states.

Well will keep you informed the clerk said just go buy another bird in the states. Well i bought this one for my birthday and have a receipt why is it so hard?

I am dual citizen and women in canada are abused by men and when it comes up that a woman is abused red flags.

I simply think she is dating an rcmp constable and even a woman i talked at the court who is a secretary thinks i am getting the shaft... word to the wise never go to court in canada... to retain an attorney is 2500...

What i dont get about the abuse charge is the mitigation person told her she needs proof so go to a doctor... yet emotional damages... if anyone was abused prior in a relationship would they not report it and get out of the relationship...? She did it before and her mum said well the last guy spent more... i dont know i am just telling my story maybe so someone never has to go through this.

I just hope she does not get a chance in france my european friends would say... some people if dating have so much baggage learn from it all and not leave your pet before it gets bad... get all your stuff out and to a friends..
