Mr.Darcy wrote:Love my Hahns but would LOVE to get a Great billed. There are only two breeders in Canada and both are fairly new with no babies yet. I love the cartoonish look to their face/beak and from what I have reasearched quite a nice bird, quiet, talks and beautiful bird.....

They are a good size and have a good life span (40yrs)
Anyone know where I can get one???

On a side note:
My brother and his wife had a Moloccan, tons of dust, screamed all the time and plucked like crazy. It spent all of its time with an acrylic collar to stop the plucking and attacked their only child. They would lock her up in the dark bathroom to punish her.....
Poor planning and now she has been given away to an animal resue....sad

I'd never seen a Great Billed Parrot before so I just googled it. His face is so precious! It's amazing to me how such a big beak doesn't throw a bird off balance.

I dream of the day I can add an African Grey to my flock. It will be a few years, once my children are older. I've had a life long love affair with them. Amazing, noble beauties. I'd also like another conure someday, I loved my jenday even thought he was LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD. I'm leaning towards a green cheek or pineapple.

Right now, although my flock is very small (Quaker and Cockatiel) they both have such big personalities it feels like a handful :)

I wouldn't want to get a big bird later in life. I'd hate to die, and have my birds still have years and years left.

We got a handful of surrenders in over the wekend at the rescue, two of which were a jenday and a quaker. The quaker was soooo sweet, sat on my shoulder all day and slept in my ear. :quaker:

Well, I'm plenty young and even in a few years when my children are older (not as in grown, but as in, not dealing with a toddler.) Unless early to mid 30's is considered late in life. *shrug*

I thought about this, too. I would love to have a bunch of larger birds one day, but larger birds usually mean longer lifespans. Hopefully when I do get those older birds, I can adopt ones that are fairly aged themselves. Either that, or hopefully I have children that are good with birds and willing and able to take them after I die. If they don't, I clearly didn't do a good job at raising my children and I'll be extremely angry with them.

Look at me, already angry with my hypothetical children! ;)

I'm no spring chicken  and I know most of my birds will probably outlive me, which is why I have made will arrangements for all of them and all bird owners should do the same. Not to be morose, but any one of us could die tomorrow and your birds will be parentless (unless you have a spouse that is willing to take over). Make a will. Speak to friends and family to instill godparents should anything happen. Its the only way to be 100% sure they will be taken care of.

In the moments like that, are you thinking of adoption that particular bird? Are you strong enough to tell yourself, that you'll gonna see that bird anyway in your rescue place? Or you have dilemma and every day you find more arguments to bring quaker home. Just curious ;)
I'm also not spring chicken

Oh trust me, its hard not to fall in love every time I go there. We started with 2 before we started volunteering there and we have 5 now.... LOL I do tell myself that the birds will more than likely be there when I come back and if not, then they have found a new flock and that makes me very happy.

Which rescue do you volunteer for? Do they have a website? I like to "window shop" birds for if/when I can talk my boyfriend into it.
