My mom has a pionus (Maximillian), a very shrewd little bird! She loves almonds more than anything else, but her other hobbies include showering and shredding papers. She's very adventurous and will fly into the shower with people or fly to the nearest stack of paper for shredding. As for non-almond foods, she isn't the most gluttonous eater - there's a pronounced difference in that regard between her and my Amazon. She doesn't particularly like any wet or cold foods - my mom has to microwave orange slices for her if they've been in the fridge, otherwise she won't eat them! She's also pretty territorial about my cage and my mom, and will bite other people and boss around other birds. My Amazon is scared of her despite being twice her size. Not sure if that kind of behavior is typical for pionuses or if it's just her, though.
I agree though, not many people seem to have pionuses. I've never met anyone else with one. They're great birds though! The "pionus strut" is pretty hilarious, and in my experience they smell nice too.
