Sunday Conure? Jenday Conure? Sun Conure?

Postby Cr4ZyFr0G100 » Fri May 06, 2011 12:18 pm

Does it make me a bad person for not knowing what type of conure I have? Because when I bought my birdie from BT's Jungle the lady who worked there told me it was a Sun Conure, then the owner of the store told me it was a Sunday Conure, not a Sun Conure. I looked up pictures of the Jenday Conure and the Sunday Conure and they look the same to me, unless it's 2 different names and the same species.

A Sun Conure and a Jenday Conure are different species of conure. A Sunday Conure is the cross of the two. And considering how much a Sun Conure and a Jenday Conure look alike in the first place, I'm not surprised you can't tell what you have!

From what I've seen, a Sun Conure has more yellow on it's wings. A Jenday's wings are more green. I'm not sure what would happen in the case of a Sunday Conure. I'm also not sure if this rule always rings true.

Nah, not unless you bought a big, fluffy, white bird and think it's a sun conure. If you're being told two different things, unless you can contact the breeder and find out definitively what it is, you have to go with your best guess.

How old is it? Sun conures look like jendays when they're immature. It can take up to two years to molt into adult coloration. Our sun conure's going through his first molt and lookin' a little weird as he's not quite ripe yet.

Scroll down and you can see a pic of him from last week:

Really? Why? I think my descriptives are pretty horrifying.

But then again, when people still want one after I've told them what they're really like, I feel pretty confident they REALLY WANT ONE.

My house is oddly quiet even when I have six of them (right now) sitting a few feet away.

If I could figure out how to upload pictures I'd totally love to show what my bird looks like.
