Sad news

Postby MJD17 » Tue May 24, 2011 6:39 pm

Hey all. My Cockatiel past away yesterday afternoon. I noticed something was off as he wasn't moving around and coming to the front of his cage to come out as he usually did so I picked him up and he had hardly any strength. Rushed him to his vet where he was immediately put on oxygen but he just wasn't able to pull through. Took him back to the bird specialist store we bought him from and the owner said that his neck was broken. He allowed us to take one of the nine week old babies (a Cinnamon) but it's still very hard. Thought I'd share for when I eventually post pics of the new little guy and anyone who had seen him is confused.

Regards,
Matt

What a shame, so sad. Any idea how it may have happened? Hope you feel better soon.

I'm honestly clueless. He was fine the night before (even heard him chirping as recent as 6am that morning). At around 10 I looked in on him and he was in a sleeping position, head under wing so I didn't disturb him. About an hour later when he hadn't woken I opened up the cage and went to pet him as he would always turn to get me to stop and he was still. I was told it was possible he had a night fright and did it but I don't see how as he was as quirky as ever at 6.

I'm very sorry. These things are so difficult.

Thanks for the condolences all. I've adjusted everything in the cage as to be much less packed so now there's only a perch and a single swinging toy. Knock on wood no more accidents will happen.
