Fell in love with a Sennie today. I went to a pet store to interact with the Conures, but to my surprise I decided that bouncy personality might be too annoying for 30years. There was a young Senegal who was the sweetest thing with such an intelligent look in his eyes. Hard to see why Mona calls them Gremlins! :D

Are they really that awesome?

Honestly, my Senegal is pretty awesome and the reason why I got so into Pois. I do get that intelligent look in the eye you mentioned - I've seen that with practically every Senegal I've met.
I think the early socialization has helped in keeping her very sweet and she is my least "troublesome" bird.

But it seems that not all Senenies are like Shade, but then no bird is really quite like another. I do believe that you have to be loving yet firm with your Senegal so that they do understand boundaries. They can be a wonderful avian companion if properly raised.

As babies they're the sweetest thing ever but somehow they manage to grow into little gremlins. :senegal:

Ok, I take that back... All Senegal Parrots except for Natacha's are gremlins! :lol:

Glass Onion, we had a similar experience. Never much cared for Senegals, but met a very cute young one at the bird store and it was adorable... I still don't think they are going to be my species of choice. Then again, I didn't think I'd go for Capes, and Scotty has me pretty much wrapped around his finger...

Honestly, I had never considered a Senegal before- I simply wasn't appealed. I always thought I wanted a Conure. As a matter of fact, the Meyer's didn't even interest me at all. I guess I like the gremlins-to-be! :lol:

To be honest, I haven't seen very many species of birds in person. I've seen a senegal once at a pet store.

A bunch of kids were sticking their fingers in the cage and bothering the poor little guy. I promptly told them that the bird is angry and will most likely bite and draw blood. They walked away.

I'd love to meet a female red belly.

Id never even considered a bird as a pet. I was always told as a kid it was cruel to keep a bird as they are suppossed to fly up in the sky and be happy there not in a cage...but my boyfriend and i often went to a pet shop close to us just to play with the animals; little bunnies and hamsters and all that sort..when we saw a tiny little thing watching everything goin on outside his cage, unlike the love birds and budgies who were all flying round not noticing us. When the girl took him out and we played wit him and he licked me and tweeted and me and hopped from person to person begging for attention i was crying to take him home. Unfortunately he was too expensive and i now have a sene for half the price. Sometimes i feel guilty because hes not in a flock flying with his friends but im selfish and i love him :? :D

Hey Glassonion,
I know what you mean, I have no opinion on the Senegals and then I met on at Petcetera....I went back and it was sold. I thought I wanted a Sun Conure, but then I saw a few, man what a screetch!!! Then I went to PJ's in Richmond and I had them hand me the Meyers.....I melted.....and then I did my research and then I bought one from Windsong......stand by "she" should be ready to join us in July/August.....

the point is.....so many bird owners cant be wrong about the pois......go for it!! In for a penny, in for a pound......
