On rare occasion, if someone has asked me, or would ask me,if they should get a senegal parrot, I would tell them no and have told them no, it's not one that I would choose. They're cute, smart, curious and very loyal however.

Kili has expressed various types of aggression toward me, mostly territorial aggression. She's attempted to fly and attack my face but couldn't get a good grip on my cheek and she's not a strong flier. I can't remember when the last time she bit me on the hand/finger and broke the skin was because I have implemented several things to prevent the bites or prevent me from feeling the pain of them:

-I avoid asking her to step up and avoid holding her and/or I always wear gloves when I ask her to step up from any location (except for a completely neutral territory because when she's outside or when she's at someone else's house etc she is not aggressive)
-If she's on my hand, the majority of the time is because I called her name and she flew to me for a treat (her choice)
-During training sessions, on some occasions she will accept me "grabbing" her around the back gently for a treat, but I do this in such a way that she cannot reach around and bite me so she cannot change her mind (also, in the beginning, her choice)

What about the theory that says if you handfeed a baby parrot and keep it as a pet, you might be facing problems with it later on, because in the wild, the baby would naturally be leaving it's parents to mate. Since it can leave you, obviously, and you are its " parents ", it naturally wants nothing to do with you because it doesn't want to mate with it's mother or father.

This is not from me, but I've read stuff about it written by professionals. And this looks like a good case of it to me.

I love animals, but I am not one who believes one should not rehome a pet he or she has adopted. I believe there are certain situations where finding a suitable home is necessary.

Who is happy here ? The bird ? The owners ? I think not.

Is there anyone in the forum near enough to adopt the bird?
If needed, I would travel up to 500 miles to adopt a bird that needs a home, but my radius is 500 miles and I am in North Carolina.

If there's any research that supports that, I'd love to see it. It sounds way out there to me, though. 20 years ago it was common for people to handfeed their prospective pets because it was felt to increase the bond. Now that's frowned on primarily because it is risky for the baby. Breeders sometimes retain handfed babies as pets. And although the pet-owner relationship may have aspects of a mate relationship, in most cases we actually want to discourage that. So I'm not buying that as an explanation without considerable evidence to support it. I've heard a number of arguments for co-parenting and this one never cropped up...
