But, after the first bite, you really lose your fear of it.

And over time, you will learn your parrot's body language and behaviors, and you will become better and better at avoiding bites.

And WHEN you get bitten - don't make a noise. If you do you will either scare the bird half to death of teach it how to control you.

You should try a Budgie! :budgie: They're very energetic and can be cudly as well. (Not ALOT of cudling thouhg) And they even talk to some degree and if they do you can understand it quite well. Though I've heard they can be a little bit more time consumeing when trying to train them (not taim them). Mainly because they don't have a big attention span and they're very active lol! And they're not that loud at al lfrom what I've seen and read. ;)

I only had one bird, a cockatiel, that really hurt. Her name is Rosie but I gave her the nick name of Pit Bull. She meant to tear chunks out. She would clamp down and shake her head. The only way I could get her to let go was put my other hand over her head so she couldn't see. Her sister is sweet little Twinkle who loves for me to sing the Twinkle song.

Rambo, my male Amazon, broke skin once. He was on my shoulder and a man came too close (he hates men). He couldn't reach the man so he bit my ear lobe.

All my birds will clamp down and leave an indention if I annoy them. The others have never actually hurt me. Just scare me. But I don't make a sound and they stop.

But it's all abouth the personallity of a bird. Maybe when you go to the pet store aske if you can hold some of them and observer veryclosely at which bird had more intentions to BITE you or NIBBLE on you because he/she likes you.

At one time I had only 2 pied cockatiels. Sweetie :pied: One has a sweet personality and loves to chatter with me but doesn't like to be picked up unless she is already out of her cage, no scratchies or pets, just a little conversation while sitting on my finger.

The other was :pied: Charlene (she was Charley) was another matter all together. She wanted held and cuddled. She took naps on the back of my neck under my hair while I watched TV.

At that time I did not have my daughters cats and my cats liked the birds. Their cage doors were never closed. I kept a piece of news paper and a dish of water on the top corner of the entertainment center because Charlene would just fly in to be with people.

Two birds that looked alike but with different personalities. I don't train my kids. They grow up like kids. They know "comeere" and "no" from the beginning. As far as I am concerned that is all they need. Everything else they learn on their own.

If you are going to get a single bird, I suggest a male cockatiel. They don't chatter as much and they sing beautifully as well as learn to talk.

I rescued a bird, Curlie :greycockatiel: when his humane was in a situation. (3 years then returned to his human) He could say "pretty bird" and watcha doin". I thought he was just copying. One day when I was cleaning the cage, I kept moving him around. He said "watcha doin to the pretty bird?". He not only memorized the words but remembered how they were used.

Night Fright is when something scares them. They flutter like something is trying to kill them.

It can even be cause by what they do. Like start to loose their balance or something.

I have 6 and they don't have night frights unless there is something to be affraid of. Like the night someone tried to break in through the sunroom.

I think because I have more than one, they have the flock mentality that someone else is on guard and they don't have to worry.
