I was sorta waiting for one of these posts. Like I said I would never have taken it home without the breeder giving me the proper instructions. He showed me hands on how to feed it properly. I also did lots of research. I am also in contact with the breeder about any issues should any arise.

It's good that you stay in contact.

However, I still believe it's a risky thing. This isn't so much addressed to you as there is possibly other people out there that might think, based on your post, that buying unweaned babies is a good thing. For most, it's not. As this is a public forum and that a lot of people might read these posts, I do feel it's important to point out that there are risks to doing this.

I personally know breeders that have been shown and have been around other breeders when they started to learn the proper techniques. It was a whole learning experience, more than just a few hours. They were learning with the other breeder around, on clutches the other breeder had - and didn't have any of their own until they felt they were prepared for any eventuality.

But I am hoping all goes well for you and your bird, I really do.

Sorry to say this but it seems to me that your buy your birds on impulse. You bought two beautiful conures and rehomed them very soon. Think about it, they are housed together, with a member of their own species. If you were in their position you would prefer the company of your own species wouldn't you? You should of just bought one. Did you wait any time for them to establish a bond with you? A proper bond takes at least 6 months. Even though they are handfed it doesn't mean the moment you get them you can handle them like you can with your senegal. Now you just bought an African Grey which is definately not for someone who is new to the aviculture. Handfeeding is very hard too. The formula has to be at an exact temperature and consistency. It also has to be fed in the right amount. You also have to keep the baby warm at a certain temperature. Even experienced bird owners have babies die because of improper handfeedings.

I waited an extra 2 weeks until my Cockatiel was weaned. Trust me it will probably be worth it. But i wish you luck. By the way Afrcan Greys can e quite difficult to take care of sometimes. :?

Awww your new baby :gray: looks so cute! We got my ekkie when he was still being hand feed and I feel like it helped build a stronger bond. I hope you love and enjoy your new CAG! Just looking at him makes me want a new bird, but 2 birds to love is enough for me. :D
