Vasa Parrots

Anyone own or had experience with a Vasa parrot? There seem to be two types or species, Greater and Lesser, each having subspecies.

I have never heard of them. They look really cool though. you might want to try looking for info online. How did you come across them and for what reason do you need info?

I came very close to getting one! But I would have had to import a baby...and the quarantine restrictions are severe (90 days in a bird-free facility located a good distance from any facility housing a bird...)...

...I didn't want to put a baby through that - and I didn't have anyone willing to look after the bird for me during the quarantine period.

But if it were straightforward, I would have gone ahead. The few people I was able to ask questions of were all positive in there responses...

We own a Greater Vasa parrot. They are extremely hard to find due to the long waiting lists that are associated with breeders. We were fortunate enough to find one though, and have it hand-raised and just as lovable as any other of our birds. I have uploaded a video of him on youtube:

Aw! Now I wish I had gone through with it!

Actually, now I could provide a proper quarantine...but at the time I couldn't...

Is there anything about him you don't like? Would you get a second one if you could?

I would get 5 if I could! ... these birds are more friendly, funny, curious, CUDDLY, and smart than any of the others I've encountered....

there's nothing I don't like, and I think the worst thing is that he's very very smart. Figures things out instantly, which can lead to him getting into all sorts of things or escaping his cage. haha

Here is another video i JUST uploaded. :)
