Please DO NOT get an unweaned bird.

They require specialised care which many of us are NOT qualified to give or advise you on.

Parrotlover, I hope my last post did not come across as harsh but I feel to take an unweaned bird is a recipe for disaster.

Based on the info YOU have posted:-
* never had a bird before therefore no experience
* no spare cash
* no avian vet
* at school for 7hours a day

I may be wrong (hope I am) I get the feeling from your question above that you may ask the breeder if you can take the tiel unweaned. To be a parrot caretaker (or any pet for that matter) you need to be responsible and for an inexperienced person to take on an unweaned bird is irresponsible. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT. You could kill this bird by not caring for it in the correct manner. If you are going to wait for the bird to be weaned before taking it then you do not need info on how to care for an unweaned bird. you have enough to do with caring for your new friend without worrying about irrelevent information. i dont mean this to sound harsh but you need to be responsible here, this bird is a living creature who can come to great harm through inexperience.

Yes I do know Mum2rory. Actually the breeder said that they are all now weaned. And yea I do know how to be responsible for a animal. I had 2 rabbit, a squirrel (he and his sister fell out of a tree, though his sister died a day later when we found them), an alligator, currently a dog, a turtle, multiple fish, and snake. We also had finches at one time. I think I have what it takes. :)

I guess I am confused by your posts. On another site you wanted a Sun or Jenday conure. Cost was not a problem as it was to be a family pet. Then you wanted a GCC, then a Parakeet, now a Cockatiel. I like that you are asking tons of questions, and hopefully when you finally get the bird that PICKS you, you will be prepared. Good luck to you.

So glad your tiel will be weaned. I only made the comment on "if you were to take an unweaned" bird. You have asked enough questions and to care for your new little friend. I know you have "what it takes" to care for a weaned bird. I was only questioning whether you intended to get the bird unweaned and if you were, I would be very concerned for the bird cos as little as 3 weeks ago you didnt even know what an unweaned bird was.

Good luck, post pics, pics and more pics.

About the name, you could go for a unisex human name (Alex, Jamie, Charlie etc) or a pet name (Skittles - sorry Rachel, Mango, Kiwi)
