a cockatiel joined the family and my budgie layed 2 eggs

Postby coolhady13 » Sat Jul 30, 2011 7:35 am

hi everybody ,

my budgie layed an egg yesterday and another 1 today :)( yuppyyyyy :hatched: )

it was hard to get a picture for the eggs as the female was inside the nest box cleaning the new egg

http://i51.tinypic.com/dote21.jpg

question : i feel that the eggs are very small for a budgie( size of candy coated cadbury) . is that normal or they will get bigger with time or what ?

i also got a handfed cockatiel 4 days ago :greycockatiel: :hatched: he is very cute and cuddly :D

i named him Isaac

thats some pics i took for him

question : is he/she a male or a female ?

question : he/she seems to have dandruff on its feather is that normal or not and any idea how to get rid of it ? he also have little chickens smell .any idea how to get rid of this smell 2 :D ?

thank you , i thought isaac was a male then on the internet i saw differnce between the male and femal cockatiel so i thought he was a female .so i named her Missy . then i read that it have to molt first so i could know if he is a male or a female . so im now calling him/her missy until he/she molts . about the bugie eggs the female layed another 1 same size so i think that there normal size

That tiel is so young it doesn't know what it is. That is why I choose names by personality not gender.

Did you candle the eggs. I use a strong flashlight with a black coffee can lid. Make a hole just a little smaller than the diameter of the egg and set it in. You will see the inside. If you see any red at all it is fertile.

This dandruff is quite normal on tiels. My tiel has it too. Tiles have the most but other birds have it sometimes too.

Good luck with missy!

I use a soft toothbrush and brush in the direction the feathers grow. The dandruff is more odviouse when they don't have a buddy to help preen them.
