I wouldn't trust me to do it. It would be too easy to slip and ruin the poor bird for the rest of his life.

Have you looked in http://www.YouTube.com at the cockatiels. Some have lived 35 years. I can't even imagine hand feeding a mutilated bird for 35 years.

Ok but they sometimes dont use their cuttlebones so i have too but not often

Do you have toys for your birds? Birds in the wild constantly chew on bark and wood. You need to provide soft wooden toys, not just a cuttlebone.

Yes, as long as you provide cuttlebone, wooden chew toys and food that is hard for the to chew on their beaks will remain short enough. I have never filed my birds beak, as he won't like it and he has cuttlebone and has plenty of chew toys to keep him busy. Has anyone here ever trimmed their birds nails? My cockatiels nails are getting quite long and they need trimming, I think I'll take him to the vet to do it but i'd like to hear your views on what you do.

If you just need to get the sharp tips off - use a fine emery board. No more than three swipes per nail because of the vein. You can always go back another day if it's still sharp.

i just gently i say VERY gently and slowly clip it off with a baby nail clipper. just about a bit up but cut it short or it will bleed dont cut it short just to where its not sharp but i say you put the bird in a towel on it back slowly also and clip the nails slowly but quickly.
