New bird

Postby lorikeetlove » Thu Aug 04, 2011 4:36 am

Hi, I want to get a new bird but I dont know between a:
-budgie
-rainbow lorikeet
-indian ringneck
-senegal
- King parrot

I've had 2 budgies before but this time I want to teach my pet tricks and how to talk, I want a bird to spend hours and hours with but can also spend alot of time with-out me due to work, school and just going out, price is a bit of an issue I'm leaning towards budgie for my first hand tame bird because they have the lowest maintenance requirements but i also want a 'bigger' sized bird like the :irn: and the :rainbow: . I am not sure about the size of a senegal or king parrot and tiels are out of the question they do not appeal to me at all.

which would be good as a first pet and to play with

Thank-you

I would suggest a budgie, cockatiel or green cheek conure (gcc)for your first hand tamed bird. I'd think a King Parrot could be quite aloof and not happy without another King Parrot friend, or bond to you and stress when you're gone. We had a King Parrot when we were younger who was in love with our dad, and even with 3 Black Capped Lories to play with and us he would crack it every time dad'd go away. To the extent of being very bratty and eating things that dad would use (pencils, eraser, etc). They're also not the smallest of birds, I'd say ours was as big as our Aunty's Blue Fronted Amazon.

i have a cockaitel and he learn faster than my budgie . but since you want a senegal or an indian ringneck . i say get the senegal as they are medium sized and i have smaller beak than than the indian ring neck . and of course you can see how many trick kili can do :senegal:

Have you considered a lovebird? :mlovebird: They are budgie sized, but based on what info I've gathered on them, they are a bit more challenging than a budgie. I don't know how much you know about :rainbow: but before you go any farther with that one, be sure you know about their diet.
