Hello all. I'm new to the forum and new to parrot ownership. I have a few questions about my baby Senegal. She's 2 1/2 months old.
She is super tame, more so than I thought she would be. I read and read and read about parrots and learned a lot before buying her and I figured once I got her home she would pull some antics, but she is so easy going. For instance, yesterday we misted her and my 4 year old daughter wanted to dry her. I thought for sure the towel would scare her so I told my girl to go very slowly and use a corner of it. Shes was fine and my daughter opened the towel more. Still fine. Then she wanted to put the towel around the birdie like a cape. I told her no way. That would be scary. My daughter (all of 4 years old with her wisdom) insisted the bird would be fine and begged me to try it. My sweet bird just snuggled in and happily played with the towel around her.
Today I was feeding her the soak mix by hand on the counter and she walked up to my chest and sort of bumped her head on me to beg to be picked up. It was so adorable!
She also hasn't made a peep except some little soft noises. I read that Senegals, even though they are quieter than other parrots can screech, but even this morning we slept in late and when I uncovered her cage she was happily munching away on her food. She didn't demand to be let out or be uncovered.
So my question is.... what should I expect as she matures? Should I be prepared for her to get less tame as she gets older and more rambunctious? We are socializing her, making sure not only our family interacts with her, but our neighbors and friends as well. So far she has liked everyone, especially the kids which surprises me.
